Motivation for Women’s Clothing
Throughout history, a variety of outside influences and internal preferences have motivated women across the globe concerning their choices in clothing. While obvious factors, such as protection and warmth are some of the reasons why a woman puts on the attire she chooses in the morning, clothing also serves as a powerful way to express and communicate identity. Below you will find some of the reasoning behind today’s clothing selections and fashion pertaining to women.
Modesty
Even though different people consider different things to be modest, over the centuries, this concept has had a significant influence on how women dressed. In the past, in some parts of the world and specific periods of time, women were not allowed to expose their legs, shoulders, back, and cleavage.
For instance, Muslim cultures expect women to cover most of their bodies while in public. This has created a wide-ranging market of lengthy and concealing garments in cotton, wool, polyester, silk, rayon, and denim. Common attire includes Hijab underscores, long lycra gloves, abayas (long cloak-like garments); and jilbabs (outer- and overgarments including long robes and coats).
Beauty and Seduction
n order to be attractive, women often choose tight black dresses for parties or pants suit that match their hair or eye color. The concept of beauty has undergone huge changes within cultures where tight skirts and high hems were once important fashion elements. Over time, the idea of beauty has changed within different cultures, where cleavage-bearing blouses, tight skirts, and high hems no longer bind women’s fashion. The perception of beauty is different for all, where an increasing amount of women forego dressing to impress others, This being said, a black suit with a white shirt could be as attractive as a full-length gown. Also, accessories play their own role; for example, dazzling earrings
Ceremonies
Women have a specific type of fashion for special occasions that mark significant moments in their lives. For example, wedding attires, ball gowns, and quincereana dress worn by Latina girls on the celebration for their 15th birthday; the dresses can be flashy, detailed, classic, etc. and what they all have in common is the special meaning they carry.
Nowadays, female fashion in the U.S. is mostly dictated by the latest trends in fashion, i.e. ladies can have the same haircut as their favorite celebrity or wear designer purses or dresses and shoes in the color of the current season.
Current Fashion Trends
In the United States, women often follow the latest fashion trends, whether it is cutting their hair like a celebrity (ie. Halle Berry or Jennifer Aniston); choosing a designer purse (ie. the patchwork Coach bag or the Birken), or selecting clothing that matches the newest “color of the season.”
