Dandruff is a very common scalp disorder affecting people of any age irrespective of their gender and ethnicity. The condition is characterized by the presence of white flakes and mild itchiness on the head scalp. The severe form of this skin condition is clinically called seborrhoeic dermatitis as it involves inflammation and other added symptoms too. The appearance of white flakes on the head and the clothes sometimes, lead to low self-esteem. The condition is usually more common in winters.
For mild dandruff, the following remedies can be utilized and followed for 2-3 weeks to treat the condition of dandruff:
- TEA TREE OIL
Mix 2-3 drops of tea tree essential oil in any carrier oil like almond oil, and massage that on to your scalp. After 2-3 hours wash your hairs with any mild shampoo. Also, the same amount can be added into your shampoo for washing the hairs. This tip will assist you to get rid of dandruff as tea tree oil is known for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
- YOGHURT AND EGG
Applying a mixture of 1 cup of yoghurt and 1 egg onto your dry scalp will not only help you to treat dandruff and but it will also act as a natural conditioner to your hair locks. Rinse off your hairs with shampoo after half an hour application of this mixture. One can also add a few drops of lemon to this mixture.
- COCONUT OIL AND LEMON
Both coconut and lemon have the characteristic property of restricting microbial growth. So applying coconut oil mix with few drops of lemon will help to reduce itching and flakes due to dandruff. Gently massage your scalp with this mix and shampoo your hairs after one hour.
- NEEM AND LEMON PASTE
After rinsing fresh Neem leaves, grind them to make a thick paste and mix few drops of lemon to it and leave it on your scalp for around 30 minutes. This paste will help you to treat dandruff, as Neem is an effective antimicrobial agent. Also, one can use powder of Neem leaves if fresh leaves are not available. - CAMPHOR AND COCONUT OIL
Mix a small quantity of camphor with coconut oil and apply this directly on to your scalp to get rid of itching and redness due to dandruff. After one hour of application of this mixture, you can wash your hairs with a mild shampoo. Camphor, an effective antifungal agent, is very popular amongst Indian culture for its cooling effect as well.
- SHAMPOO WITH SPECIFIC CHEMICALS
Anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredients as ketoconazole or selenium sulfide or salicylic acid or sulfur or tea tree oil can also be used for treating dandruff. So, one should opt for such over the counter solutions only after a prescription from dermatologist.
